Bishkek is awaiting a large-scale renovation of green spaces

Bishkek is launching an ambitious project for the reconstruction and creation of public spaces. The city administration, together with "Bishkekzelenstroy" and local authorities, plans not only to update the greenery but also to completely change the approach to organizing leisure areas. In parks and squares, pedestrian paths will be renovated, modern lighting will be installed, and recreational areas for residents will be created, which should significantly improve the quality of leisure in the city and the environmental situation.

In the Lenin district, attention will be focused on popular walking areas such as the Young Guard Boulevard, Chapayev Park, and the Journalists' Alley. Reconstruction of the square on Chortekova Street and improvement of the adjacent areas of the "Manas" cinema and the Sh. Termechikov Drama Theater are also planned. In the Pervomaisky district, key sites will include Oak Park, Erkindik Boulevard, and Togolok Moldo Square, where the restoration of the "Fish" fountain and the creation of new leisure areas on Profsoyuznaya Street and near school No. 54 are also planned.

The largest volume of work is expected in the Sverdlovsk district, where the parks "40 Years of Kyrgyzstan," "Red Builder," and "Leather Factory" will be renovated. Additionally, new green spaces will appear in the residential areas of Ak-Bata, Dordoi, and Enesai, as well as in the Alamedin-1 microdistrict, where a modern square will be created on the site of the former "Dan" market. The Oktyabrsky district will also not be left out: improvements to squares in most residential sectors are planned, including microdistricts 3 to 12 and new leisure areas in Kok-Jar, Kyrman, and Tunguch.

Ecologist and urbanist Dmitry Pereyaslavsky emphasizes that this approach to park development, ensuring walkability, directly affects the quality of life and health of residents. In his opinion, it is extremely important for parks to be located within a 5-10 minute walking distance from homes. Key success factors will be multi-layered plantings that effectively trap dust, reduce noise levels, and create a healthy microclimate.

Against the backdrop of air pollution issues, the expansion of green spaces in Bishkek becomes particularly relevant. In winter, the level of fine particulate matter PM2.5 in the city often significantly exceeds the permissible WHO standards due to coal heating and intense traffic. Experts unanimously agree that systematic greening is one of the most effective ways to combat smog, helping to capture harmful particles and reduce summer temperatures, which will ultimately make the urban environment healthier and more sustainable.
