By the directive of the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Agency for State Property Management, together with the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy, will handle the transfer of the building of the 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema in Bishkek, as well as the adjacent land plot of 40 acres, into the municipal ownership of the capital.

According to the cabinet's resolution, a social institution is planned to be built on the site of the old cinema, which will serve children and the elderly. This decision aims to improve the accessibility of social services for the city's population.

A cultural center will be built on the site of the 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema

The 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema was built in 1967. In 2010, the building was nationalized and transferred to the state youth theater 'Uchur,' however, major repairs were never carried out, and the theater continued to use the old premises without significant updates.

In the 2010s, disputes arose around this property regarding ownership rights. The former owner claimed that he was deprived of his property without compensation and demanded a payment of about 3 million soms. Legal battles lasted for several years, while the building continued to deteriorate.

In November 2025, the cinema was damaged by a fire, which resulted in roof damage. After that, the Bishkek city hall announced its intention to take the property onto its balance sheet.
