A deputy calls for the organization of supplies of a vital medication to southern Kyrgyzstan
During a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Zhyldyz Egenberdieva raised an important issue regarding the availability of the drug "Gleevec" for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia.
According to Egenberdieva, since 2004, over 500 cases of chronic myeloid leukemia have been registered in Kyrgyzstan, of which approximately 90% are adults and 10% are children. "Gleevec" is a vital medication that patients must take for their entire lives. It is supplied to the country by the European fund Max Foundation as part of a humanitarian program through the National Center for Oncology and Hematology.
Currently, all patients, regardless of their place of residence, are forced to visit Bishkek every month to obtain this medication. They spend significant time in queues and waiting, as well as incurring expenses of 15,000 to 20,000 soms for travel, accommodation, and food.
In light of the above, the deputy proposed to organize the distribution of the drug "Gleevec" at the Osh Regional Oncology Center or in the hematology department of the Osh Interregional Combined Hospital. This would improve access to medications for patients from the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.
