At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev reported on plans to increase the salaries of Veterinary Service employees using funds from a special fund.

This information was a response to a question from Deputy Saltanat Amanova, who noted that the salary levels in the Veterinary Service are too low, leading to a shortage of young specialists and the need to attract retirees.

“In the summer, we observed outbreaks of diseases among cows, and vaccination did not always help. This is partly related to the work of the Veterinary Service. We need to take measures to improve the situation in this area,” Amanova emphasized.

Bakyt Torobaev also added that in 2025, vaccination was conducted for 26 million heads of livestock, including both large and small ruminants, as well as poultry.

“However, the problem lies in the insufficient number of private veterinarians. There are 1,600 of them in the country. Currently, we are working on clarifying their status, duties, and responsibilities, as well as exploring opportunities to increase their incomes. A situation has developed where private veterinarians only come when called by livestock owners, and we want them to monitor the situation continuously, regardless of calls,” the minister noted.

He acknowledged that salaries in the Veterinary Service leave much to be desired.

“For this reason, we have opened a special account to use funds for increasing the salaries of employees. In addition, a program called ‘Young Veterinarian’ is being developed, aimed at attracting young people to work in the regions. We are ready to provide assistance with housing and salary bonuses to those who agree to work in rural areas,” Torobaev added.
