Sadyr Japarov, the president of the country, held a meeting with the parents and relatives of those convicted in cases related to the illegal drug trade. This information was provided by the press service of the head of state.

During the conversation, the relatives appealed to the president with a request to soften the preventive measures, suggesting replacing detention with house arrest. They also raised the issue of mitigating the punishment for the convicted and the need to amend the legislation for its humanization.

Japarov listened attentively to the participants of the meeting and noted that issues concerning the judiciary require the state's attention. He also emphasized that crimes related to drugs pose a serious threat to public health, public safety, and the future of the country.

According to the relatives, most of the detainees are young people, including some older individuals. They noted that the detainees had no prior criminal record and were detained for the first time. Furthermore, some of them had only a small amount of prohibited substances seized.

The president expressed his readiness to consider the possibility of pardoning those who committed a crime for the first time, provided there are appropriate grounds and necessary procedures are followed.

He added that an official petition would need to be submitted, which will be reviewed according to the established procedure.

At the end of the meeting, the president emphasized the importance of enhancing preventive work and educational activities among the youth, as well as improving the effectiveness of cooperation between various agencies in the fight against drug trafficking.

In addition, he instructed the relevant services of the presidential administration to analyze the current legislation in the field of drug control.
