President Sadyr Japarov, in an interview with the publication "Kabar," expressed his determination to prevent the division of Kyrgyzstan into northern and southern parts, noting that he intends to finally eliminate regional disagreements that have been exploited by politicians for personal gain over many years. He emphasized that the ongoing personnel reforms and rotations in the regions are aimed at strengthening national unity and reducing the influence of clans and regions.
“I will always be against the division into north and south. Politicians resort to such divisions only when it serves their interests, while ordinary people become victims of this game,” he stated.
Since gaining independence, Kyrgyzstan has witnessed a constant trend of dividing the country into north and south. Japarov recalled that when he entered politics in 2005, he already noticed that the government was divided along these lines: one half represented the north, the other the south, and even in ministries, efforts were made to maintain this balance. “It was very sad,” he added.
At that time, he promised himself that if he became president, he would definitely cure this “disease” of Kyrgyzstan.
Since 2021, as the president noted, the divisions have begun to gradually disappear. The rotations of akims and judges, as well as leaders of the Prosecutor's Office, GKNB, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have already yielded results.
All akims and judges have been replaced: akims from the north have been appointed in the south and vice versa, which has contributed to reducing the level of division.
If circumstances allow, it is planned to advance further at the level of ayil okmotu. This is necessary, as sometimes local leaders allocate the best resources to their relatives, and tenders are often won by those close to the authorities.
Japarov assured that these problems will be addressed, although it will take time to improve living conditions.
The president also mentioned other ways to eliminate divisions between the north and south.
