At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan, the candidacy of Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov for the position of chairman of the GKNB was unanimously approved. This appointment was proposed by the president, who will soon formalize it with a decree. However, the discussion was not without sharp comments from deputies, who expressed dissatisfaction with the methods used by the security service.
Deputies strongly urged the new head of the GKNB to reconsider the approach to business. Ismanali Joroev noted that some employees of the agency used pressure tactics against entrepreneurs, including the involvement of private auditors. Their recommendations, although advisory in nature, often served as justification for threats and forced confiscation of funds, known as "kusturization." Joroev added that many of these operatives are now themselves being detained for exceeding their authority.
Dastan Bekeshev asked Shabdanbekov about the upcoming reforms and the possibility of holding an open press conference. He also pointed out dubious employees known by the nicknames Vaseline and Lizard, raising the important question of whether the criminal cases they initiated and handled would be reviewed if they are now being held accountable for their actions.
Other deputies also emphasized the importance of ending the practice where the GKNB effectively replaces tax and audit authorities. They demanded to cleanse the ranks of the agency from employees who discredit the civil service.
