The State National Security Committee will be deprived of the right to interfere in the economy and the fight against intimate services

In the course of the upcoming reforms, the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan (GKNB) will return to its core functions, as is customary for classic intelligence agencies. In an interview with IA "Kabar," President Sadyr Japarov stated that the agency will not engage in economic crimes and minor offenses.

According to the president, "The GKNB will focus exclusively on its core tasks: intelligence and counterintelligence, protecting the constitutional order, combating terrorism, extremism, banditry, and the illegal drug trade. Interference in the economy will be excluded."

Sadyr Japarov also expressed dissatisfaction with the interference of intelligence agencies in the fight against intimate services. He noted that he had previously told his predecessor: "This is not your area, hand it over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We should not lower the level of the GKNB."

The main goal of the reform is to make the agency more closed and prestigious. "No one should know exactly what the GKNB is doing and who its employees are. After the reform, it will become a true intelligence agency, reminiscent of the former KGB," the head of state added.
