On February 26, in London, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, held a meeting with Yvette Cooper, the head of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Information about the meeting was published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
The negotiations discussed both the current state and the prospects for cooperation between the two countries. Both ministers expressed their readiness to deepen Kyrgyz-British ties, emphasizing the expansion of political dialogue, strengthening economic and investment cooperation, as well as enhancing cultural and humanitarian relations. The parties agreed on the necessity of regular exchanges of delegations at the levels of parliaments and governments.
Kulubaev noted the achievements in bilateral relations, including the construction of a cement plant in Kyrgyzstan by United Concrete Canvas. He also mentioned the provision of a credit line from a British agency to finance investment projects, cooperation with British financial institutions in the area of sovereign credit ratings, and access to international investment markets in London. Additionally, the implementation of elements of English law in Kyrgyzstan and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of critically important mineral resources were discussed, as well as the realization of a program for the employment of Kyrgyz citizens in seasonal work.
However, despite the positive achievements, Kulubaev expressed his concern regarding the potential negative impact of unilateral restrictive measures on the development of trade and financial relations. He emphasized the need for a more constructive approach from the United Kingdom and Kyrgyzstan's readiness for an open, equal, and mutually beneficial dialogue.
The ministers also discussed international and regional issues, as well as cooperation within various international organizations and regional associations.
