In his official statement, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, emphasizes that Tehran considers retaliating against those involved in the elimination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as its "inalienable duty and right." This message was conveyed through France 24.
According to him, the death of Khamenei, a significant figure in Shia Islam, is perceived as an open declaration of war against all Muslims. Iranian authorities confirmed that the Supreme Leader died as a result of an airstrike that occurred at his residence on February 28, with the official announcement of his death made on the night of March 1.
According to information from The Wall Street Journal, Israeli fighter jets used about 30 air bombs during the attack. The New York Times, citing its sources, reports that the assault was meticulously planned: American intelligence (CIA) obtained information about a secret meeting attended by high-ranking officials and Khamenei himself.
Currently, a period of mourning has been declared in Iran, and the temporary powers of the Supreme Leader have been entrusted to a collective governing body.
