Deputy Tabildy Muratbekov: Kyrgyzstanis should pay more for water

The people's deputy believes that the increase in tariffs will not have a serious impact on citizens' budgets

Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Tabildy Muratbekov, has proposed a radical revision of tariffs for drinking water in the country.

According to him, the cost of one cubic meter of water may increase by 14.38 soms, leading to a total price of 36.99 soms.

Muratbekov argues that such changes are necessary due to a serious crisis in the water supply system. He emphasizes that the current tariffs do not cover the real costs of water supply, making it impossible for local water utilities to invest in network modernization. According to him, in many regions, the level of infrastructure wear and tear has reached critical levels, and the lack of funding complicates any attempts to improve the situation.

Although a significant increase in tariffs is anticipated, the deputy believes that this will not create a heavy burden on the population. He compared prices: a liter of bottled water costs over 25 soms, while a cubic meter of tap water, even with the increase, will remain significantly cheaper.

A decision on the proposed changes will be made after discussions with the relevant government agencies.
