Former Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel calls on Europe to engage in dialogue with Vladimir Putin
At the traditional Matthiae-Mahl reception in Hamburg, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel supported the idea of the necessity for dialogue between Europe and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She noted that the European Union must demonstrate independence and actively participate in international negotiations, including those related to the Ukrainian crisis, alongside the United States.

“Europe must take its fate into its own hands like never before,” Merkel emphasized, adding that it is important for the EU to show unity both within the union and on the global stage in order for its opinion to be taken seriously.
She also highlighted the importance of maintaining diplomatic dialogue with Moscow, stressing that despite support for Ukraine, the European Union should act as a peacekeeping force capable of facilitating an end to the conflict.

It is worth noting that the next round of negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine, which was supposed to take place in Geneva in early March, has been postponed indefinitely. This decision is related to the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, where Washington is actively involved in Operation "Lion's Roar," aimed at overthrowing the Iranian government.
