The referendum in Kazakhstan has been recognized as valid

According to preliminary data, the majority of citizens of Kazakhstan supported the amendments to the Constitution.

A referendum recently took place in Kazakhstan, which has been recognized as valid. The voter turnout was over 73%.

According to the results of an exit poll conducted by the Eurasian Integration Institute, 86.7% of participants voted in favor of the new version of the fundamental law. The survey covered about 30,000 respondents at the exit of 200 polling stations in 17 regions and three major cities.

Another exit poll, conducted by the private fund "Institute of Comprehensive Social Research - Astana 'Socius-A'", showed a support level of 87.4%. At the same time, according to data from the Public Policy Institute of the Amanat party, 88.6% of respondents also expressed support for the new constitution.

The Central Referendum Commission is required to officially announce the voting results within a week.

According to preliminary information from the Central Election Commission, the overall turnout was 73.24%, with 9,126,850 citizens participating in the voting.

The highest turnout was recorded in the Kyzylorda region — 93.04%, while in Almaty, the largest city in the country, it was only 33.43%. In the capital, Astana, the turnout was 60.36%.

It should be noted that the draft of the new constitution was the result of an initiative by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The document proposes to abolish the bicameral parliament, replacing it with a unicameral Kurultai, as well as granting the president the right to unilaterally appoint the Attorney General, the heads of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, the head of the National Bank, and the chairman of the National Security Committee.

In addition, the introduction of the position of vice president, appointed by the president with the consent of the unicameral parliament, is planned. The president will have the right to dissolve the Kurultai if this body does not approve his candidates for the positions of vice president, prime minister, and speaker twice.
