According to the new law adopted on January 21, strict administrative measures have been introduced for unauthorized processing and publication of citizens' personal information using AI technologies on the internet or in the media. Fines for such violations can range from 50 to 100 basic calculation units, which is equivalent to amounts from 20.6 to 41.2 million sums (approximately from 1.7 to 3.4 thousand US dollars).
In addition to significant fines, violators face complete confiscation of the equipment used for illegal activities.
Changes to the law "On Informatization" not only introduce penalties for offenses but also provide a clear definition of artificial intelligence. This concept now encompasses a set of technologies that can imitate human reasoning, learn, and perform tasks comparable to human cognitive activities.
A key element of the reform is the prohibition of making decisions regarding vital aspects solely through machine algorithms. The law states that in cases affecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, the decision of the AI system cannot be the sole basis, and the final word remains with a human. These measures are aimed at protecting citizens from potential errors and uncontrolled application of modern technologies.
