Unusual Names: A Resident of Naryn, Whose Aunt Visited a Major Mosque in Kazakhstan, Was Given a Rare Name

At Secondary School No. 9 named after Abdykadir Sadykov in Naryn, a student with a unique name stands out — Shabyldiev Asset Akylovich.

Asset not only has a sonorous name but also demonstrates outstanding results in academics and sports. A Turmush correspondent spoke with him about his ambitions and the significance of his name.

According to Asset, he is purposefully working to graduate with a red diploma. In addition to his main classes, the young man actively participates in extracurricular activities and engages in self-development. He noted that school has become not only a source of knowledge for him but also a place where he has made true friends and gained valuable experience from older mentors.

Sports play an important role in Asset's life. He previously practiced boxing but has now switched to volleyball, participating in interschool competitions. "Sports develop discipline and endurance, which are the foundation of my life," he notes.

As for his future profession, Asset is confident in his choice and dreams of a career in customs service. "I want to become a customs officer to control the goods imported into Kyrgyzstan. It is very important to prevent the entry of dangerous cargo, such as drugs and products that could harm children. Protecting the Motherland is the duty of every citizen," he says.

The origin of Asset's name piques the interest of those around him. "My aunt gave me this name. When she was working in Kazakhstan, she really liked this name because there is a large mosque dedicated to Asset there. I have heard that this name means 'ray' and 'earth'," the student shares.

Asset also noted that due to the rarity of his name, new teachers sometimes confuse him with more common names like "Asel" or "Asek." However, he does not take offense at this and simply explains, "My name is Asset."
