What changes are expected for this area: residential complexes or underground garages?
The filling of the quarry in Bishkek, located in the 12th microdistrict, is ongoing, as local residents report to the Vesti.kg portal.
According to city dwellers, trucks are delivering soil for the filling of the quarry around the clock.
“Even if the quarry is completely filled, should the soil be compacted to avoid building collapses in the future?” residents are asking.
In case of construction needs, local residents suggest considering the possibility of creating underground garages.
We remind you that Bishkek residents reported plans to build residential complexes on the site of a large quarry in the southern part of the capital.
Soil from nearby hills is planned to be used for the filling.
Local residents are concerned about the potential negative consequences of such decisions, both in urban planning and environmental contexts.
The quarry in the 12th microdistrict of Bishkek (near Aaly Tokombaev Street) is a significant industrial site that has been in operation since 1968 for the extraction of sand, gravel, and sand-gravel mixture. In October 2023, an area of more than 60 hectares was returned to the state, and the city administration intends to use it to improve road infrastructure.
A new Eastern bypass road (16–32 km) is planned to be constructed in the southern part of the quarry, aimed at relieving traffic from the Kant side. The project includes a 4-lane highway that will run from the southern microdistricts (Zhukejeva-Pudovkina) through Kok-Zhar and Kara-Jygach to Novopokrovka, with an elevated bridge and five interchanges. Work is set to begin at the end of 2025.
Additionally, last year, the demolition of garages located near the quarry was announced.
