A resident of the Suusamyr Valley in the Chui region, Almanbet Mukhtarbek uulu, along with a neighbor, chased a wolf that they encountered near a barn, and ultimately they killed the predator by striking it with sticks.

Almanbet, born in 1993, is married and raising a daughter and a son. He shared details about the encounter with the predator with a correspondent from Turmush.

According to him, the incident occurred at the Aiygyr-Zhal wintering site in the village of Kaisar. “Neighbors had already reported seeing the wolf and its tracks. In the evening, when I had driven the sheep into the barn and came out, I noticed the wolf nearby. I called my neighbor Daniyar Bekzhanov and suggested that we chase it together. We had no weapons. We pursued it on horseback for about an hour and a half, blocking its paths. When the wolf got away from my neighbor and tried to climb the mountain, it came out towards me. I hit it on the snout with a stick, and it fell.

After that, it got back up and tried to run away, so I hit it again. Daniyar arrived, and together we finished off the wolf. Judging by its condition, it was very hungry: it probably couldn't find food and approached the barn. If we hadn't stopped it, it could have attacked the livestock. Catching a wolf is not an easy task: it requires coordinated action,” he reported.

Almanbet also noted that wolves often come close to villages. “In Suusamyr, they are active every year. There are seven villages in the valley, and in each one, you can encounter from three to ten wolves in winter — they approach populated areas. In less populated places, there are even more. According to rumors, since the fall of 2025, wolves have taken and eaten more than 20 heads of cattle and about 100 sheep. For example, my neighbor lost 14 sheep in one day. People with guns and permits are hunting. I have not yet received a hunting permit,” he added.

He also shared a similar case from his family. “My father also killed a wolf without a weapon — he told me that he chased it on horseback and, when the wolf hid by a tree, he hit it with his stirrup. As a child, I saw him bring a wolf home and he said he dealt with it by hand,” Almanbet concluded his story.
