On horseback after a wolf: Ak-Tala resident defended sheep from a predator

On January 16, Muratbek Esenkhanov, a resident of the village of Terek in the Ak-Tala district of the Naryn region, successfully shot a large wolf while herding sheep.

The shepherd boy was in the Tuyuk-Koo area when he noticed the wolf sneaking up on his flock. Without wasting any time, Esenkhanov jumped on his horse and chased after the predator, ultimately managing to shoot it.

“This winter, I have already shot two wolves. Last year in the village of Bayetov, they paid rewards to those who caught wolves. They say that something similar is promised to us, but no exact timelines have been given yet,” he shared.

The situation in the Terek area is calm; there are not many predators here. At the same time, in places like Kara-Suu and Maystan, the situation is much more tense. We, the hunters, gather at the request of local residents and conduct wolf culling. Yesterday, January 16, while I was herding sheep, I was informed that “a wolf is roaming below.” I blocked its path, chased it on horseback, and shot it. It was quite a large wolf,” Esenkhanov added.
