Georgy Cherdantsev, a well-known television commentator, commented on the potential replacement of sports commentators by artificial intelligence. In his opinion, such fears are unfounded, as AI cannot reproduce the unique qualities that are inherent to humans during a live broadcast.
In an interview with the publication "Championat," Cherdantsev emphasized that artificial intelligence operates based on logic and rationality, while a human commentator is capable of making sometimes irrational decisions that can turn out to be successful or even genius. This ability, in his view, is crucial in the profession of a commentator.
He also noted that AI lacks natural emotions and cannot improvise—qualities that are essential for creating a quality live broadcast. The emotional reaction to events on the field and the instant adaptation to changing situations remain the privilege of humans, Cherdantsev added.
“Thus, commentators and hosts need not fear replacement by AI,” he concluded.
Georgy Cherdantsev works for the "Match TV" channel and is one of the most famous sports commentators in Russia. In 2023, he received the national television award TEFI in the category "Host of a Sports Program / Sports Commentator."
