Neymar recently signed a new agreement with "Santos," allowing him to stay with the club after the 2026 World Cup.
Previously, his contract was set to expire less than six months before the start of the World Cup, which fueled rumors of a possible transfer. Now, the forward has agreed to a one-year extension that will last until December 2026, regardless of whether he makes the Brazil national team for the tournament.
This extension reflects a change in Neymar's strategy, as after returning to "Santos" in February 2023, he typically signed short-term contracts lasting six months. His last agreement was set to expire at the end of 2025.
Santos president Marcelo Teixeira and Neymar's father, who is also his agent, were actively negotiating the new contract. Neymar significantly contributed to keeping the club in the top division, scoring five goals and providing one assist in the last four matches of the season.
The forward will miss the start of the 2025 season due to recovery from a medial meniscus injury. His return is expected on February 25 in a match against "Vasco da Gama," although a debut on March 11 against "Mirassol" is also possible.
Signing the new contract ensures that Neymar will remain an important player for "Santos" and can focus on preparing for the World Cup, as well as competing in the Copa Sudamericana.
