The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has extended the New Year holidays of 2026 until January 12, as reported by the Telegram channel "Gosinfo".
The Ministry of Labor previously clarified that the relevant document provides for the transfer of working days from January 8 and 9 to the weekends of February 7 and April 25, 2026.

According to Article 66 of the Labor Code, citizens of Kyrgyzstan will rest from January 1 to 7.
The reasons for extending the holidays were explained by the Ministry of Labor as follows:
“After the holidays, there is usually an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viruses and influenza, so additional days off will help reduce seasonal illnesses.
Moreover, winter vacations for schoolchildren in 2026 are also planned until January 12, which will allow parents to spend more time with their children, strengthening family ties and social well-being.”

From an economic perspective, the extension of the holidays will have a positive impact. The first two weeks of January are the peak of the winter tourist season, and the additional days off may bring income to small and medium-sized businesses, contributing to the development of regions with tourist potential and supporting domestic tourism.
Additionally, the increase in the number of holidays will help reduce the electricity deficit in the energy system and lessen the load on communal infrastructure during the winter period.
Thus, extending the New Year holidays until January 12, 2026, will not only enhance the efficiency of government institutions but also improve socio-economic indicators, as well as contribute to the health and well-being of the population. This decision will not require significant budget expenditures, as previously reported.
