Athletes engaged in weightlifting in Russia have received permission to participate in international competitions representing their country. This is reported by DW.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has allowed athletes under the age of 23 to compete under the Russian flag. For adult athletes, the opportunity to participate will be available after the restoration of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

A similar decision was made by United World Wrestling (UWW), which has permitted Russian wrestlers under the age of 24 to participate in international tournaments with the flag and anthem of their country. However, the issue of allowing adult wrestlers remains open and will be discussed at one of the upcoming meetings of the UWW bureau.

It should be noted that restrictions on the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions and the Olympic Games were introduced following the onset of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2022. In February 2025, Russian wrestlers will be allowed to compete on the international stage under the UWW flag, while until that time they could only participate in competitions in a neutral status.
