On February 21, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social network Truth Social that import tariffs would be increased from 10% to 15%. According to him, this decision was made to protect the country's economy.

Trump explained that this decision was the result of an analysis of a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, which had previously deemed the tariffs illegal.

The president noted: "Based on a thorough, detailed, and complete review… I, as President of the United States, am raising the 10 percent global tariff… to 15 percent."

He stated that the new tariffs take effect immediately, and in the coming months, the administration plans to develop and implement additional measures.

It is worth noting that earlier, Trump signed an order to impose an additional 10% duty "for all countries," which was set to take effect on February 24 and last for 150 days.

Recall that on February 20, the U.S. Supreme Court declared the global tariffs imposed by the Trump administration in April 2025 illegal. The judge concluded that the president had exceeded his authority by using the emergency law to establish so-called reciprocal tariffs.
