It is reported that in Pyongyang, Lee Jae-myung's apology was interpreted as a "wise and encouraging" step. Kim Jong Un characterized the South Korean president's action as "the worthy behavior of a generous person."
However, Kim Yo-jong warned Seoul, noting that talks about peace and stability will be nothing more than empty words until South Korea stops its "thoughtless provocations" against North Korea. She added that if actions violating the sovereignty of the DPRK are repeated, Seoul will face an "inconceivably high price."
The drone incident occurred on March 31, when a joint military-police operational group (JPOG) described the case as an "individual deviation." President Lee Jae-myung expressed regret over the launch of private drones towards North Korea.
"Although our government had no such intention, I express regret for the unnecessary military tension caused by irresponsible actions," he said at a cabinet meeting.
In January, South Korea's Minister of Unification Jeong Dong-yeong also expressed regret over the incidents involving drones that intruded into North Korean airspace and promised to tighten penalties for such actions.
