According to information provided by the city's internet communications department, a dwarf deer known as the Chinese muntjac attacked a female rhinoceros named Marusya. The hoofed animal keeper at the zoo explained that such behavior from the muntjac is due to its territorial instincts and hormonal activity, as its female was in heat. It perceived the appearance of the rhinoceros as a threat.

However, as noted by the specialist, Marusya did not show aggression and perceived the situation as a game. At the moment when she momentarily stepped back, the rhinoceros snorted, indicating that she did not wish to continue the interaction.

The zoo added that such interactions between these species are not uncommon: in the wild, muntjacs and Indian rhinoceroses often inhabit the same territory and graze nearby without conflicts, which is why they are kept in the same enclosure in the zoo.
