U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw the invitation previously extended to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to join the "Council of Peace." This came after Carney spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, criticizing Washington's actions in using economic pressure on other states, Reuters reports.
In response, Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, stating that Canada would not be able to become part of "the most prestigious Council of leaders ever created." Just a week ago, representatives of the Prime Minister's office confirmed receipt of the invitation and expressed their intention to accept it.
The "Council of Peace" was originally established to monitor compliance with peace conditions in the Gaza Strip and received approval under a UN Security Council resolution. Later, Trump expanded the functions of this organization to address conflict resolution in other regions as well. Invitations to join were sent to 58 countries, including Russia; however, U.S. allies such as the United Kingdom, France, and Italy do not currently plan to join.
