According to information provided by the Financial Times, American officials are discussing the possibility of expanding the powers of the "Council of Peace," which was originally created to address the issues in the Gaza Strip, to countries such as Ukraine and Venezuela.

This plan is expected to be announced at the World Economic Forum, which starts on January 20 in Davos.

Currently, the "Council of Peace," which is under the control of U.S. President Donald Trump, is focused on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. However, diplomats from Western and Arab countries express concerns about the potential expansion of its functions, believing it could lead to competition with the UN.

According to FT sources, the U.S. has proposed including Venezuela in the agenda of the "Council of Peace," considering the current crisis in the country caused by attempts from the U.S. military to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro.

Regarding Ukraine, a senior Ukrainian official involved in negotiations with Washington noted that the establishment of a separate "Council of Peace" under Trump's leadership could be an important step towards ending the conflict with Russia. Currently, the possibility of creating a specialized body to address Ukrainian-Russian issues is being considered.

The FT source added that the Ukrainian "Council of Peace" could include representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Europe, and NATO and would oversee the implementation of the 20-point peace plan proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that in the draft charter, the White House plans to request a contribution of $1 billion from countries for membership in the new "Council of Peace." However, this was denied by the administration, which called the information "misleading." A statement on the social media platform X clarified that there is no minimum contribution for membership, and it concerns granting permanent membership on the condition of adhering to the principles of peace, security, and prosperity.

It is reported that Donald Trump will be the first chairperson of the new international body, and the term of membership in the "Council of Peace" will be limited to three years, with the possibility of extending the mandate by the chairperson.
