At a briefing on Monday, the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the United States is using China and Russia as a pretext to pursue its strategic goals in the Arctic.

This statement was a response to comments made by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who, while in Iceland, called on U.S. President Donald Trump to take joint actions within NATO to counter "threats" from China and Russia in the region.

Mao Ning emphasized that "the Arctic is an area that concerns the interests of the entire international community," adding that China's activities in this region contribute to the strengthening of peace and stability and are in accordance with international law.

She also noted that China disagrees with the notion that the U.S. is using countries like China and Russia to justify its actions.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that Washington is considering the possibility of acquiring Greenland to strengthen its position against Russia and China in the Arctic.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times, citing informed sources, reported that diplomats from Northern Europe have refuted Trump's claims about the alleged presence of Russian and Chinese vessels near Greenland. Two high-profile diplomats noted that there have been no signs of vessels or submarines from these countries in the area in recent years.

One of the diplomats stated: "This is simply not true. I have reviewed the intelligence data. There are no ships or submarines there."
