A bill on the annexation of Greenland has been introduced to the US Congress

There is a possibility that Greenland will be recognized as a US state

Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida and member of the US House of Representatives, has initiated a bill proposing the annexation of Greenland by the United States. This was reported by TASS, citing a statement posted on his official website.

If the bill is approved, the President of the United States will have the authority to "take necessary steps, including negotiating with the Kingdom of Denmark, with the aim of annexing Greenland or joining it to the US in another way." If this initiative is successfully implemented, Greenland will become part of a US state.

According to Fine, this bill is aimed at "protecting US national interests in the Arctic and countering the growing threats from China and Russia."

It is worth noting that Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has repeatedly expressed the need to include Greenland as part of the US. During his first presidential term, he proposed buying the island, and in March 2025, he asserted that annexation was possible, threatening Denmark with trade tariffs if they refused. However, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen rejected these demands, emphasizing that Greenland is part of the kingdom.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In 1951, Washington and Copenhagen signed a Treaty for the Protection of Greenland, which further solidifies allied commitments within NATO. Under this agreement, the US took on the responsibility of protecting the island from potential aggression.
