Since January 12, Trump announced on his social network Truth Social that all countries trading with Iran will be burdened with a 25% tariff on all business operations with the United States. "This decree is final and not subject to appeal," he added.

According to Bloomberg, key trading partners of Iran include countries such as India, China, and Turkey.

Trump also emphasized that the U.S. administration and military are exploring various options to support protesters in Iran. "We are considering a number of serious measures," the president said, noting that he is in contact with representatives of the Iranian opposition. On January 11, he also reported that the Iranian leadership had reached out to him requesting negotiations.

According to the human rights organization Iran Human Rights (IHR), by the evening of January 12, at least 648 people had died as a result of the suppression of protests by Iranian authorities, including nine minors.

Protests against the Iranian leadership began on December 28, 2025. On January 2, Trump stated on his Truth Social account that the U.S. would intervene if law enforcement began shooting at peaceful demonstrators.
