The Norwegian Nobel Committee commented on the transfer of the Peace Prize medal to U.S. President Donald Trump, carried out by Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado.
In its social media message, the committee stated: “The Nobel Prize, once it has been announced, cannot be canceled, divided, or transferred to other individuals. This decision is final and remains in effect for all time... Although the medal may change hands, the title of Nobel Peace Prize laureate does not.”
The day after this statement, María Corina Machado announced that she had transferred her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Donald Trump. Their meeting at the White House, where the situation in Venezuela was discussed, lasted more than two hours.
María Corina Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 for her “tireless work in promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela.” Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed his right to receive the Nobel Prize for his efforts in peacemaking.
