On January 15, U.S. President Donald Trump held a meeting with María Corina Machado, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition. This was reported by DW. The main topic of discussion was the prospects for Venezuela following Washington's intervention in the country's affairs, particularly the overthrow of Nicolás Maduro.

At the end of the conversation, Machado, who became a Nobel Peace Prize laureate last year, stated that she symbolically "presented" Trump with her medal in recognition of his efforts to defend freedom. She also noted that the meeting was successful and that her supporters could expect support from the U.S. president.

Donald Trump highly appreciated this gesture from Machado, expressing his gratitude for the "presentation" of the Nobel Peace Prize. "Maria presented me with the Nobel Peace Prize for my work. It was a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you, Maria!" he wrote on his page on the social network Truth Social.

However, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt noted that Trump believes Machado does not have sufficient support to lead the country in the near future.

On January 9, the Norwegian Nobel Institute denied rumors about the possibility of transferring the Nobel Prize. Their statement emphasized that once the prize is awarded, it cannot be revoked, divided, or transferred to anyone else. "The decision is final and remains in effect forever," the institute added.

Previously, Machado had expressed a desire to transfer the prize to Trump or share it with him. This statement came after Trump rejected the proposal to appoint her as the interim leader of Venezuela. According to The Washington Post, this refusal may have been related to Machado not offering Trump her Nobel Peace Prize because of it.
