Mobilization and martial law, according to the new decision, will be in effect from February 3 to May 4. Zelensky submitted the relevant documents to parliament on January 12, after which they were approved by deputies on the 14th and sent for the president's signature. The actions of previous bills adopted at the end of October 2025 will continue until the beginning of February.
The martial law regime was introduced in Ukraine at the beginning of the Russian military actions on February 24, 2022, when Zelensky signed the law on general mobilization. In August 2025, the government allowed young people aged 18 to 22 to leave the country.
Martial law gives Ukrainian authorities the ability to impose a number of restrictions. In particular, free movement across the territory of Ukraine may be prohibited, and transportation for citizens and foreigners may be restricted, as noted by "RBK-Ukraine." It is also possible to introduce labor duty or mandatory public works for certain categories of people, as well as forced confiscation of property in the interests of the army.
In addition, under martial law, the activities of political parties that threaten the sovereignty of Ukraine may be banned, and rallies, demonstrations, and mass events may be restricted, as stated in the publication.
Due to the ongoing martial law in Ukraine, the presidential elections scheduled for 2024 will not take place.
