On February 5, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Health Minister Kanibek Dosmambetov reported that there is no threat of the Nipah virus spreading in Kyrgyzstan. In light of potential risks, the ministry is strengthening sanitary measures and border controls.

According to the minister, a special algorithm has been developed to respond to possible cases of the virus in the country. Kyrgyzstan is actively cooperating with neighboring countries, such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, exchanging experiences and information about the measures taken.

Particular attention is being paid to students arriving from India, who undergo medical examinations upon arrival in the republic.

Based on the directives from the country's leadership, additional funds have been allocated from the presidential fund to improve sanitary control at airports. In particular, it is planned to install stationary thermal imagers at all international airports, as reported by Dosmambetov.

Currently, thermal imagers are installed only at Manas Airport; however, similar equipment will be installed in the airports of Osh, Tamchy, and Karakol in the future.

The minister emphasized that the situation is under control and there is no serious threat of the Nipah virus spreading. He also added that the transmission of the virus occurs mainly through close physical contact and is not transmitted as easily as COVID-19 through airborne droplets.
