The Chairman of the National Bank, Melis Turgunbaev, announced a significant achievement that has become an important milestone for the country.

“I am pleased to announce that for the first time in history, the volume of our international reserves (gold and foreign exchange reserves) has exceeded 10 billion dollars. We have reached a double-digit figure, which is a huge success. Our reserves are now comparable to the resources of major developed countries. We have entered an elite club,” he noted.

According to him, the current volume of reserves is almost twice the external debt of the state.

The head of the National Bank also added that this amount of reserves fully protects the currency market from external shocks and provides coverage for imports for about 9 months.

According to data from the National Statistical Committee, the import of goods for the first 9 months of 2025 amounted to 9 billion 135.6 million dollars.

President Sadyr Japarov, speaking at a plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on December 17, 2025, drew parallels between the growth of the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves and successes in foreign policy.

He noted that this year, the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves reached 8.5 billion dollars.

“For comparison, in 2020, our reserves were just over 2 billion dollars. Today, it is 8.5 billion dollars. Thus, in a short time, we have managed to increase this figure by more than 6 billion dollars,” the president emphasized.
