In the UK, advertising of unhealthy food has been banned online and restricted on television

According to data from The Guardian, the restrictions apply to 13 categories of products that contain high levels of sugar, fat, and salt. These include sugary drinks, chips, salted crackers, sweet yogurts, sugary cereals, popcorn, chocolate, chewing gum, ice cream, confectionery, pizza, and frozen meals.

Statistics from the authorities indicate that 22.1% of children in the UK are overweight or obese by the time they enter primary school, and this figure rises to 35.8% by the end of their schooling. Tooth decay, it is noted, is the main reason for doctor visits among children aged five to nine years.

The government is confident that the new restrictions will help reduce children's calorie intake by 7.2 billion per year and decrease the number of children with obesity by 20,000.
