In Kyrgyzstan, new restrictions are being considered for foreign students wishing to enroll in the country's medical universities. A draft resolution developed by the Cabinet of Ministers has been put up for public discussion.

The Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations reminds that the president previously instructed to explore the possibility of preventing the admission of foreign students with unreliable or questionable documents.

Among the proposed changes is a ban on transferring students to higher courses and the recognition of partially completed educational programs obtained in foreign educational institutions, regardless of the status of the submitted academic certificates.

“In recent years, there has been an increase in requests from foreign students studying abroad, asking to transfer to medical programs at universities of the Kyrgyz Republic. Practice has shown that educational standards and conditions in foreign institutions, especially in medicine, vary significantly in terms of curriculum, number of study hours, and practical skills. These discrepancies hinder the establishment of a uniform level of professional training for students and negatively affect the quality of medical services provided by graduates,” the justification states.

The agency emphasizes that the introduction of the norm requiring the admission of foreign students only from the first year is aimed at establishing uniform standards in medical education and excluding partial recognition of non-equivalent foreign programs.
