The Minister of Natural Resources and the Head of the World Bank Office Discussed the Implementation of a $50 Million Project

The Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Meder Mashiev, held a meeting with Hugh Riddle, the head of the World Bank office in Kyrgyzstan.

Also present at the meeting were: the World Bank's practice manager for ecology in Europe and Central Asia, Gayane Minasyan; the lead ecological specialist and project team leader for AQIP, Frank van Vörden; and the co-leader of the same team, leading ecological specialist Aydai Bayalieva.

Hugh Riddle emphasized the success of joint initiatives and the positive changes in Kyrgyzstan's environmental policy.

Mashiev, in turn, spoke about current actions in the climate agenda, work on the mountain agenda, and measures to protect the biosphere zone of Lake Issyk-Kul.

During the discussion, the parties reviewed a project worth $50 million aimed at improving air quality in the country.

The discussion also touched on issues related to the modernization of wastewater treatment facilities in the regions and key projects for the protection of biological resources in Kyrgyzstan.
