The Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh calls for the adoption of a new law to develop the National University, stated Nurlanbek uulu on January 20 during a visit to the educational institution.

During his visit, the speaker familiarized himself with the university's operations, where he was presented with information about current initiatives and projects. According to the press service of the parliament, Nurlanbek uulu also held meetings with teachers and students.

The university, which has a 100-year history, is, according to the speaker, one of the leading educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan. He noted that he once dreamed of studying here himself and emphasized the importance of reforms and support for higher education institutions in the country.

Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu also reported on the implementation of his initiative to split the relevant ministry, resulting in the creation of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations last year.

The speaker noted that the National University, as the leading university in the country, must adapt to new conditions and work in new directions to serve as an example for other educational institutions. “In the modern world, we need specialists who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, who are well-versed in new technologies. We are observing how the capabilities of artificial intelligence are expanding. We need to develop a draft law that will regulate its application,” he added.

“We will not be able to surprise the world by producing Boeing and Airbus, but in the future, our young specialists with quality knowledge will be able to do so. Therefore, the university must undergo serious reforms and become a well-known educational institution focused on modern education and the state language,” noted Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu. He also promised to allocate scholarships of 20,000 soms for 20 students of the Kyrgyz Philology faculty and provide assistance of 200,000 soms to two teachers who developed a new methodology for teaching the state language.

As part of the event, modern technical equipment was handed over to the educational institution. Tilen Omuraliev, who created an internet portal to support educators, was presented with a modern tablet.

The meeting took place in a "question-answer" format, where teachers and students discussed issues of integrating science and production and discussed the initiative for a draft law aimed at raising the status of the National University.

Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu supported this initiative, emphasizing the importance of science for the country's economy. “In developed countries, universities implement projects and generate funds. While our specialists are often attracted from abroad, we need to utilize the potential of local scientists. We will support draft laws aimed at raising the status of the National University,” he noted.

Teachers also appealed for a salary increase. The speaker assured that the salaries of school teachers would soon be increased and noted that the salaries of university teachers should not be lower: “The earnings of educators should not be less than the salary of a minister. The Minister of Science should prepare proposals on this issue.”
