The SCO Discussed a Unified Currency for the Organization

Nurlan Ermekbaev, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), shared his opinion on the possible introduction of a unified currency for this international structure. Ermekbaev's words were reported by RIA Novosti.

He noted that the issue of creating a unified currency is currently not on the agenda of the SCO. At the same time, the emphasis is placed on developing a flexible, sustainable, and diversified settlement system. This system, according to the Secretary-General, will take into account the needs of the member states and contribute to the development of trade and economic ties.

Additionally, in December of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin also commented on a similar issue, noting that there is no goal of introducing a unified currency within BRICS. He emphasized that the process of creating such an instrument should proceed gradually to avoid serious mistakes.
