Toktakunov noted that this man had subjected his ex-wife to both physical and psychological abuse for a long time. To support his claims, there are 16 protection orders, as well as a decision from the Lenin District Court regarding the case of "Torture".
The conflict that led to the woman's prosecution occurred on the day her child was injured, and an ambulance was called to them. The defense argues that this incident should be assessed in light of previous instances of violence and the state of the woman, who was under severe psycho-emotional stress.
Nevertheless, the prosecutor representing the interests of the Sverdlovsk district stated in court that the previous episodes of violence and this case are not related. According to Toktakunov, the court agreed with this viewpoint and considered the case separately from the previous circumstances.
The lawyer plans to appeal this decision.
Information
In the Kyrgyz Republic, issues related to domestic violence are regulated by the Law "On Protection from Domestic Violence". This law allows for the issuance of protection orders that prohibit the aggressor from approaching or contacting the victim.
Protection orders are issued by both courts and law enforcement agencies. However, human rights defenders and lawyers point to difficulties in their implementation and enforcement. In cases of systematic violence, criminal liability may arise under the article "Torture".
According to official data, over 10,160 cases of domestic violence were registered in the country in the first seven months of 2025, significantly exceeding the figures for similar periods in previous years.
More than 90 percent of victims of domestic violence are women.
Experts attribute the increase in registered cases to both a rise in incidents and the fact that victims have become more likely to seek help from law enforcement and social services.
