From 2006 to 2025, Japan has provided training opportunities for 327 state and municipal officials from Kyrgyzstan, as well as 28 specialists under the "Young Leaders" program. This information was reported by the press service of the State Agency for Public Service and Local Self-Government.

The director of the agency, Elchibek Jantaev, held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan, Hirano Ryuichi, during which issues of cooperation in the field of capacity development and the results of the JDS scholarship program were discussed. Kyrgyz civil servants have the opportunity to obtain master's and doctoral degrees in Japan. For the 20th cohort of the program, the Japanese government allocated a grant of 399 million yen, which is equivalent to about $2.5 million.

During the conversation, an initiative to increase the JDS program quota to 50 places (currently 20) and to expand the "Young Leaders" program to 10 places (currently 2) was proposed. Ambassador Hirano Ryuichi expressed a desire to convey these proposals to the Japanese side.

In addition, the agency noted that in 2026 there will be a significant anniversary: 20 years of the JDS program and 25 years of JICA representation in Kyrgyzstan.
