On January 8 in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) completed the signing of a protocol of discussions regarding the project "Establishment of a Digital Network Platform for Integrated Modeling to Assess the Resilience of Ecosystems of Pastures and the Gobi Desert to Human Activities and Climate Change." This project is part of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program and aims to restore ecosystems.

The documents were signed by three representatives: Batbold Munkhtur, Director of the Department of Science and Technology Policy and Planning of the Ministry of Economy and Development; Sodnomsambuu Demberel, President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences; and Tokudji Yoshimura, Senior Representative of JICA in Mongolia.

The project represents a collaboration between Yamaguchi University and the Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technologies of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. The main goal is to develop sensor technologies that will integrate satellite data and information obtained in the field on Mongolia's pastures that are prone to desertification. The project also focuses on creating methods and mechanisms for assessing the resilience of ecosystems to changes caused by human activities and climatic factors, which will enable effective monitoring of ecosystems in pasture areas.
