The Chief of Staff of the President, Kanaybek Tumanbaev, made a statement on social media on January 26, responding to the dissatisfaction of representatives from private driving schools. He announced the start of a comprehensive reform concerning driver training and the process of issuing driver's licenses.

Tumanbaev noted that in the past, in some private driving schools, driver's licenses were essentially sold, which led to an increase in road accidents. "We must openly acknowledge that this has resulted in numerous traffic accidents," he wrote.

According to him, the situation on the roads continues to raise concerns, as by 2025, the number of traffic accidents and casualties has increased compared to 2024. "When we drive a car, we are responsible not only for our own lives but also for the lives of other road users. Driving is a serious responsibility," he emphasized.

Tumanbaev also reported that the owners of private driving schools were notified in advance about the upcoming changes. The heads of the driving schools were gathered at "Yntymak Ordo" for an open discussion of the planned reforms.

The key focus of the reform, according to Tumanbaev, will be on changing the training system: driver training will be conducted exclusively in state driving schools. He added that the changes are not aimed against all private driving schools, and good specialists will be involved in the new state system.

The acceptance of applications under the new curriculum and standards will begin in mid-February 2026. Tumanbaev concluded: "The reforms are not directed against anyone — they are necessary to save human lives. We will definitely bring order."
