The Minister of Natural Resources, Meder Mashiev, speaking at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, stated that Bishkek is not among the most polluted cities in the world. This statement followed a comment from Deputy Suyunbek Omurzakov, who noted that the capital often appears in anti-rankings for air quality in recent years.

Omurzakov expressed doubt about the reliability of these rankings and inquired about the measures being taken by the authorities to clean the air. In response, the minister noted that there are three key areas contributing to atmospheric pollution, and the authorities are actively working to eliminate these factors. According to him, there have already been positive results: "Kyrgyzhydromet" has recorded an improvement in air quality in Bishkek over the past one to two years.

“We do not have sufficient grounds for such claims. To eliminate doubts, we are modernizing monitoring systems. After the project is completed, we will be able to rely on updated data. A new monitoring system will be launched by the end of the year, and projects aimed at reducing air pollution will also be implemented,” added Mashiev.

For his part, Suyunbek Omurzakov pointed to the experience of other countries where it has been possible to reduce smog levels by 30% through greening efforts, and called for studying this approach.
