Today, early elections are taking place in Japan for the parliament. According to experts' forecasts, the greatest success in the voting is expected for the national conservatives, led by the recently elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaiti.

Observers note that the elections are proceeding without major violations or incidents. However, record snowfall has been recorded in the northern part of the country, which may complicate the counting of votes in some regions.

According to the latest polls, the coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party, represented by Sanae Takaiti, and the "Japan Renewal Society" may secure about 300 out of 465 seats in the parliament. The liberals also have a chance to achieve an absolute majority, which would be a significant success after their failure in the 2024 elections.

The Associated Press emphasizes that the Japanese opposition, despite the formation of a new centrist alliance and the rise in popularity of far-right forces, remains insufficiently organized to pose a real challenge to the ruling coalition of conservatives.

It is worth noting that Sanae Takaiti became Prime Minister in the fall of 2025 as a result of parliamentary voting, rather than through general elections, following the early resignation of Shigeru Ishiba.

Now she aims to obtain a popular mandate, planning to implement a more active defense policy, as well as increase government spending and investments to stimulate economic growth, enhance tax revenues, and stabilize the budget.
