At a press conference held on January 15 in Bishkek, Zheenbek Kulubaev shared his views on the prospects of Kyrgyzstan obtaining the status of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Since 2022, the country has been actively conducting its election campaign. "This is quite a challenging task, as this is a new direction for us. We need to establish connections with all states, as each country has one vote in international relations. We are working on establishing contacts and conducting outreach about our intentions and goals," he noted.

Kulubaev also pointed out the difficulties Kyrgyzstan faces, especially in the regions of Latin America and Africa, where the absence of Kyrgyz diplomatic missions complicates the work. In this regard, he announced the opening of an embassy in Ethiopia and plans to open an embassy in Egypt this year.

Speaking about competition with the Philippines, Kulubaev emphasized that this country, with significant experience and four previous elections to the Security Council, poses a serious obstacle. "It has strong ties with major world powers and occupies a strategically important position in South Asia. Nevertheless, we believe that small states like Kyrgyzstan should also be represented on the international stage. We will defend the interests of small and medium-sized countries, as well as mountainous regions and Oceania. Therefore, relying on our friends will be a key point in our work," the minister added.
