Former Chancellor of Germany calls on Europe to return to cheap energy supplies from Russia

At the beginning, Schröder recommended purchasing electricity from Russia.

Gerhard Schröder, the former Chancellor of Germany, has advocated for the resumption of purchases of cheap energy supplies from Russia to mitigate the impact of inflation and reduce tariffs in Europe. This was reported by Berliner Zeitung.

He emphasized that Russia is not a "country of barbarians," but a state with a rich culture and history. Schröder believes it is necessary to establish forms of cooperation with this country. In his column, he noted that his previous views on energy policy remain relevant: "Practice has shown that the supply of cheap energy from Russia is safe and reliable. This also includes my proposal to make gas extraction and supply more environmentally friendly using modern German technologies," he stated.

However, the former chancellor condemned the invasion of Ukraine, calling it "unjustified" and accompanied by violations of international law. He added that "the European community must make every effort to stop this war."
