Vladimir Zelensky noted in his message on February 1 that Ukraine is open to serious discussions and hopes that the results of the negotiations will help bring the country closer to a dignified resolution of the conflict.
At the moment, representatives of Russia and the USA have not made any official statements regarding this matter. According to TASS, the coordination of the negotiation dates took place at the level of the parties, and they were scheduled for the middle of the week.
It was previously assumed that new negotiations would be held on February 1 in Abu Dhabi, as stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, on January 28: "Negotiations are scheduled for February 1, but this is tentative" (quote from TASS).
Also, on January 30, Zelensky expressed concerns that due to the deterioration of relations between the USA and Iran, the meeting might be postponed to another time and place.
The first round of trilateral negotiations took place in a closed format in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE reported that the delegations of Ukraine and Russia interacted directly during the discussions.
Representatives of the Ukrainian side characterized the negotiations as "positive" and "constructive," while the Russian side expressed the opinion that it would be inappropriate to expect significant results from these initial contacts.
