The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament announced that the decision is based on Article 7 of the countermeasures law, which concerns the recognition of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. "The armies of European countries are now considered terrorist groups," said Ghalibaf.
He also added that European countries, in their attempts to weaken the IRGC, "have actually shot themselves in the foot," acting to the detriment of their own people's interests and submitting to American policy.
Furthermore, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the parliamentary commission on national security will discuss the possibility of expelling military attachés from EU countries and will continue consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this matter.
Recall that on January 29, Josep Borrell, the head of EU diplomacy, announced the agreement of the foreign ministers of EU countries to include the IRGC in the list of terrorist organizations. This decision was made in response to the IRGC's involvement in suppressing mass protests that began in Iran at the end of December.
